Hi! My name is Rebecca, and Nabi is my little dream come true. Nabi actually means ‘butterfly’ in Korean, but the inspiration behind this name comes from my Korean name, ‘나린’ or Narene. As a child, I remember adults often asking me what my name was in Korean. When I would respond, they would say “Oh, is it 나비 (Nabi)?” because my Korean name was quite uncommon and sounded similar to the common Korean term for butterfly.
As I brainstormed the name of this bakery, I wanted to choose a name that highlighted my childhood and cultural background because of their strong influence over my baking today. And that’s how Nabi was born! I believe ‘Nabi’ encompasses my childlikeness that expresses itself through my pastry but also the strong tie to my Korean heritage that always inspires me.
When I bake (and succeed), I feel a sense of childlike giddiness that something I made could look so pretty or taste so good. It brings me so much joy when I first open the oven and see a successful tray of macarons, or cream puffs, or anything else. In the same way, my goal for Nabi is that it would invoke the same childlike wonder and joy in you as you try these baked goods. My hope is that each bite brings a big, unrestrained smile to your face, bringing you back to a state of lightheartedness and elation– just like a child!
Lastly, thank you so much for supporting my endeavors and Nabi Bakery– even if it just means browsing the website and reading this page. Stay tuned for the future trajectory of Nabi!
